In the first quarter of 2024, the UK's iOS platform saw significant activity in the music and podcasts app category. Sensor Tower provides a detailed look at the performance of the top five apps in this segment.
Spotify - Music and Podcasts experienced a gradual increase in revenue, ending the quarter at $105M, up from $83M at the start of January. Downloads showed a declining trend from 55K to approximately 46K, while weekly active users (WAUs) saw an uptick, closing at 8.2M from an initial 8M.
SoundCloud: Discover New Music also saw fluctuations in revenue, peaking at $168K in late February, with the end of the quarter at around $165K. Downloads slightly varied, with a low of 16K and a high of 21K. WAUs peaked at 3M in mid-February before settling closer to 2.8M by the end of March.
Amazon Music: Songs & Podcasts revenue peaked at $252K in late February, with a quarter-end figure of $239K. Downloads declined from 29K to 16K, while WAUs showed a slight increase from 487K to 464K.
Shazam: Find Music & Concerts, with no reported revenue, saw downloads start at 21K and end at around 19K. The app's WAUs witnessed a modest increase from 1.9M to 1.85M.
Lastly, BBC Sounds, also with no revenue to report, had its downloads begin at 17K and finish the quarter at 13K. WAUs showed a peak of 300K in late January but declined to 277K by the end of March.
